A MILLION SMALL FRIENDS: part one
Peter could hear the trees. They spoke to him quietly. Shhh, shhh. Go to the river. Go to the river. Where IS the river? He thought. I will look at my map.
He looked in his special box. The map was not there! What WILL I do now, he said. I must go north, where is it? Where am I?
Good morning, said a voice. Do you want some help?
Yes, please, said Peter. He felt stupid, who was he talking to now?
The voice said I#m on the big stick. I#m very near. He looked at the big stick. He could not see anyone. I#m very small, said the voice.
Peter thought for a minute. I know, I will look in my special box. In his special box was a magnifying glass. I am lucky, he thought. A magnifying glass makes things very big.
He looked at the stick, with the magnifying glass. There was an ant on it! It was wearing a green T-shirt! It was wearing blue trousers and red shoes! THIS IS VERY STRANGE, thought Peter. A talking ant wearing a T-shirt, trousers and shoes! I know that ants can not talk. But today, trees CAN talk. Big snakes CAN talk, he thought. This IS a very special day.
Hmm, he said. Good morning, ant.
Good morning, said the ant. How are you?
I#m very well, thank you, Peter answered.
What#s your name? Asked the ant.
My name#s Peter Smith, he said.
I don#t think that ants have names, do they? He asked.
You are stupid. All ants have names. My name#s Andrew Ant. Can I help you?................
More next week!
